The compatible Brother MFC 820 CW cyan cartridge that I Refilled is leaking
If the ink flows out of the exit port when you attempt to
refill the cartridge, the exit port is not sealed properly:
- You need to clean and dry the area around the exit port before you try to seal it with the tape. I also find it helpful to keep a finger on the tape while I am refilling the cartridge just to make sure the ink doesn't leak out.

If your cartridge is leaking while you are refilling it
through a fill hole that you made in the cartridge:
- The fill hole may need to be enlarged so that it is big enough for the
needle to fit in it with room to spare so air can escape as you inject the
ink. If the needle is a snug fit in the hole that you made, the hole
should be enlarged so that air can get out of the cartridge through the fill
hole while you are refilling the cartridge. If the hole is not bigger
than the width of the needle, a vacuum may force the ink to squirt out of
the cartridge and make a mess.

If your cartridge is leaking after you have completed all of
the refill steps, the seal is not completely air tight:
-
You will want to remove the tape that you applied.
-
Make sure that the area around the fill hole is completely clean and dry.
-
Apply a new piece of aluminum tape to the area. You can use your
fingernail to help affix the tape firmly to the area.
